About the Role
SGS Australia is seeking a Design Draftsperson to join its Energy Minerals Technical Services team in Alexandria, New South Wales. The group supports coal and minerals operations with mechanical sampling expertise, including the design, manufacture, and supply of sampling systems.
In this position, you will contribute to the development of mechanical sampling systems and equipment by producing calculations, concept layouts, 3D models, general arrangement drawings, and detailed designs. The work also includes minor structural elements, coordination with clients and suppliers, and making sure all outputs align with project expectations and industry requirements.
Key Duties
- Create arrangement and detailed drawings for mechanical sampling projects using AutoCAD 2D/3D and the latest Inventor version.
- Prepare and release accurate fabrication drawings for manufacturing teams and fabricators.
- Examine drawings prepared by others and confirm they comply with relevant standards as well as SGS and project specifications.
- Reuse existing SGS Inventor models to move efficiently from concept development to final manufacturing documentation.
- Complete design and drawing deliverables within agreed timelines while maintaining a high level of precision and limiting drafting errors.
- Ensure engineering calculations are accurate and that all work follows applicable standards.
- Work with clients and suppliers to resolve drawing-related questions and issues.
What You Need to Bring
- Strong capability in AutoCAD and Inventor, supported by substantial experience in mechanical design.
- Solid background in engineering design and calculations, with the ability to translate technical knowledge into workable solutions.
- Prior drafting experience, ideally across mechanical or industrial projects.
- Intermediate-level proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- A current driver’s licence.
- Well-developed communication skills for dealing with clients, suppliers, and internal team members.
