Role overviewThe Housekeeping Utility role is responsible for delivering polished, efficient, personalized, and technically strong cleaning and cabin service while following company policies and meeting public health expectations. The main objective is to support an excellent guest experience and consistently contribute to total guest satisfaction.Reporting lineThis position reports to the Rooms Division Manager, Butler Manager, and Head Utility where applicable.Key dutiesMaintain spotless standards in all assigned public and crew areas, including vacuuming, dusting, polishing, high-level dusting, waste removal, sanitizing, floor shampooing and general floor care, stripping and waxing, restroom service, and cleaning/polishing brass, handrails, fixtures, and glass doors.Clean assigned officer cabins and bathrooms every day to the highest possible standard.Provide laundry and valet support for officer cabins within the assigned section.Offer turndown service in assigned cabins as required by the benefit grid.Complete daily sanitation tasks on schedule and log them according to company and public health procedures.Work collaboratively with other housekeeping utilities and assist wherever support is needed.Collect and distribute requisitions, ensuring deliveries match approved requests.Handle towel delivery and collection at the gangway.Assist the wheelchair support team and attend the gangway when needed.Manage cleaning materials and chemicals properly, including safe storage and correct handling of cleaning agents.Water plants, orchids, and floral arrangements in public areas when assigned florist duties.Support embarkation and disembarkation activities as directed by the Rooms Division Manager.Maintain clear communication and regular feedback with the Rooms Division team and other shipboard departments.Attend daily briefings and follow departmental standards, specifications, routines, and special side-duty assignments.Follow outbreak response rules, maintain locker cleanliness and organization, and comply with public health standards.Protect crew and officer privacy, exercise discretion when entering cabins, and never share private information with others.Provide luggage handling services and assist with regular inventory checks for Rooms Division equipment.Keep work areas and equipment clean and maintained in line with public health standards.Use ship equipment carefully, report faults honestly, and follow up with supervisors until repairs are completed.Minimize breakage and waste, and dispose of garbage using correct procedures.Demonstrate awareness of both cost control and service quality.Support the onboarding and training of new team members.Respond quickly and effectively to issues or emerging problems, escalating concerns, complaints, or service challenges to the immediate supervisor.Participate in ongoing training to improve performance.Stay informed about daily ship activities to help guide guests accurately.Engage with guests confidently and professionally, using guest names at all times.Follow the company code of conduct, service standards, SOPs, safety expectations, and grooming/uniform rules at all times.Practice preventive maintenance and keep supervisors fully updated on important issues.Support positive teamwork and professional conduct across departments.Carry out any other duties assigned by management.Safety and complianceTake part in crew and passenger safety drills as instructed.Follow company safety, pollution prevention, and operating procedures at all times.Attend all mandatory training sessions.Set a strong example by protecting personal and workplace health and safety.Use equipment, PPE, chemicals, and safety devices properly.Experience and qualificationsValid STCW95 certification is required.Prior housekeeping experience in a 5-star environment is required.Knowledge of public health policies and procedures is needed.The candidate must be physically and medically fit.Strong moral integrity is required.Language requirementFluent English, both spoken and written, is essential. English is the working and safety language on board, so the role requires the ability to understand and give instructions clearly in both verbal and written form while communicating effectively with guests and crew.Physical and working conditionsThe job involves prolonged standing and walking, reaching, sitting, repeated bending, and climbing stairs. The role also requires lifting or pushing loads of up to 50 lbs. Overtime and irregular schedules are part of the position. The job may require shared accommodation-style living arrangements and close-quarter shipboard working conditions.
