About the role
An expanding mechanical contractor is hiring an HVAC Estimator to support preconstruction work on mid-to-large commercial and institutional projects in Charlotte, NC. The company serves HVAC customers across North and South Carolina and is recognized for custom heating and cooling solutions, practical problem-solving, responsive service, and competitive pricing.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare estimates for medium to large commercial and institutional HVAC projects.
- Handle buyout activities for equipment, materials, and subcontractors.
- Coordinate with superintendents and project managers so that bids are accurate and aligned with project needs.
- Ensure bids are completed and submitted before required deadlines.
- Maintain current knowledge of HVAC practices, construction standards, and estimating methods.
- Review plans and specifications carefully to calculate project costs with accuracy.
- Use the company’s estimating systems and tools to produce consistent estimates.
- Evaluate vendor pricing and negotiate as needed to support competitive bids.
- Bid projects in a way that aligns with estimated costs and project expectations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
- At least 3 to 5 years of experience estimating large commercial HVAC projects.
- Working knowledge of State Building Codes, OSHPD, and ASHRAE standards.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications accurately.
- Comfort negotiating pricing with vendors.
- Experience producing precise cost estimates for complex HVAC work.
Compensation and benefits
The role offers a salary range of $60,000 to $130,000 per year, along with bonus opportunities. Benefits include 401(k) matching, dental insurance, health insurance, life insurance, paid time off, a retirement plan, and vision insurance.
