Role overview
Thermo Fisher Scientific is looking for a Lab Concierge to support laboratory operations at a customer site in Burnaby, British Columbia. In this role, you will help keep day-to-day lab services running smoothly, support compliance and service quality, and contribute to customer satisfaction through reliable operational support.
The position sits within Unity Lab Services, where integrated lab support, supply handling, and service coordination are delivered to meet customer needs. You will work across multiple service areas, assist with escalations, and help improve processes and site performance.
Work schedule
This is a standard Monday-to-Friday position.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out lab concierge activities such as equipment care, scheduling support with pre-work preparation, routine lab walkthroughs, and coordination of vendor access.
- Complete monthly equipment inventory checks and manage equipment disposition through the end of its lifecycle.
- Support logistics and lab services, including handling non-POU consumables, managing mailbox triage, and notifying customers about upcoming maintenance and repair work.
- Work with clients to understand their needs for equipment, labware, and materials, and partner with field service engineers, sales representatives, and other stakeholders to resolve issues.
- Lead site-level projects, establish action plans, and ensure tasks are finished on time.
- Create and maintain work instructions and job aids for service and operational activities.
- Follow established best practices, SOPs, and work instructions in all assigned tasks.
- Keep service records accurate, support contractual commitments, and help track business metrics.
- Take on additional responsibilities as assigned by management.
Requirements
- High school diploma or an equivalent qualification.
- At least 2 years of experience in a customer-facing role.
- Prior experience in a GxP environment or laboratory setting.
- Ability to work independently while also supporting team goals and acting as backup for supervisory tasks when needed.
- Experience training peers, serving as a go-to resource, and working with cross-functional teams.
- Comfort using operational metrics and performance tracking, along with strong prioritization and time management skills.
- Clear communication skills, adaptability to changing operations, and a strong focus on quality, efficiency, and problem-solving.
- Excellent attention to detail, strong organization, and a safety-first mindset.
Work environment and physical demands
This role is based at customer sites and involves working independently in environments that may include chemical allergens such as penicillin and tetracycline. PPE such as lab coats, coveralls, facemasks, steel-toe shoes, safety glasses, gowns, gloves, ear plugs, and other protective items may be required.
Work conditions may include cold rooms/freezers at -22°F / -6°C, fluctuating hot and cold temperatures, loud equipment, office areas, laboratory spaces, strong odors from chemicals, lubricants, or biological materials, outdoor weather exposure, and work with hazardous or toxic substances.
The job requires frequent standing, walking, reaching, and bending. Regular lifting of 30-40 lbs is expected, with occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. Equipment such as pushcarts and forklifts may be used to move loads of up to 100 lbs. Overtime may also be needed.

The estimated annual pay for this role in British Columbia is CAD 44,300 to CAD 66,425.
