The role is central to securing timely and cost-effective supply of critical components for utility-scale PV + BESS and standalone BESS renewable energy projects.
This position leads sourcing and contracting for battery technologies, components, and integrated solutions that support the company’s renewable project pipeline. It calls for a strong mix of commercial judgment, contract expertise, technical awareness, and strategic supplier relationship management to deliver competitive, dependable, and sustainable sourcing outcomes. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in renewable procurement and international sourcing experience within the energy sector.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic procurement and category management
- Build and implement sourcing plans for BESS equipment, components, and long-term service arrangements, while keeping them aligned with sustainability targets and project pipeline needs.
- Oversee procurement activity from market analysis and RFP preparation through negotiation and final award.
- Lead supplier screening and benchmarking across performance, cost, quality, risk exposure, and innovation capabilities.
- Partner with business teams to anticipate BESS sourcing requirements and deliver plans that match project schedules and delivery milestones.
- Create and use a total cost of ownership approach to assess supply options, improve levelized cost of energy, and strengthen project economics.
Supplier and stakeholder management
- Manage global supplier partnerships and develop long-term strategic relationships with battery OEMs, integrators, and technology partners.
- Serve as the main point of contact between technical, engineering, project, operations, and finance teams to ensure sourcing decisions support broader business goals.
- Encourage supplier collaboration and innovation to improve competitiveness, product quality, operations, reliability, and sustainability.
- Share sourcing plans, risks, and opportunities with stakeholders and senior leadership.
- Contribute to global procurement programs and enterprise sourcing priorities to ensure alignment with broader supply chain strategy.
Contracting and negotiation
- Lead negotiations for complex commercial arrangements, including Master Supply Agreements, Long-Term Service Agreements, and project-specific contracts.
- Work with legal, technical, and project management teams to structure agreements that are balanced in risk and suitable for financing.
- Maintain supplier relationships after award to support contract adherence, better performance, and ongoing value creation.
Technical and market expertise
- Keep up-to-date knowledge of battery technologies such as Li-ion, LFP, flow, and hybrid systems, as well as their integration with renewable generation.
- Study market movements, technology changes, and supply chain trends to shape sourcing strategy and cost assumptions.
- Support feasibility studies and design optimization with cost models and technical input on sourcing alternatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Legal, or a related discipline; a master’s degree is preferred, especially with an engineering background.
- 8 to 12 years of experience in strategic sourcing or procurement for renewable energy infrastructure equipment, including at least 4 years focused on BESS.
- Strong track record in international sourcing, supplier negotiations, innovation partnerships, and contract execution.
- Demonstrated experience negotiating complex commercial contracts and managing MSAs.
- Working knowledge of US safe harbor rules, tariffs, FEOC/material assistance, UFLPA, and tax equity financing requirements.
- Ability to coordinate across multiple global time zones and travel as required to supplier facilities and project sites.
- Strong understanding of the technical, operational, market, and financial factors influencing utility-scale and standalone storage projects.
- Self-directed, detail-focused, and able to work independently across time zones.
- Excellent analytical ability, sound commercial judgment, and comfort working through ambiguity in changing markets.
- Strong relationship-building, influencing, and communication skills with executives and cross-functional stakeholders.
Benefits
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
- 401(k) and IRA retirement options.
