Role overview
This position supports the engineering side of remote broadcast production. The Video Operator will handle camera painting and shading, keep remote event video systems running smoothly, and assist with technical planning, setup, and execution across a range of productions.
Key responsibilities
- Fine-tune video levels along with black/white balance and color balance across all cameras.
- Route and patch video signals and coordinate with video staff to position monitors for talent and the show.
- Diagnose and resolve video-related issues such as camera, cabling, and lens problems.
- Maintain order and tracking for remote compound video, fiber cable, and source lists.
- Work with Operations and Production partners to build, plan, and improve workflows.
- Assist with system design, build, and on-site integration for video paths, fiber-linked systems, digital compression and transmission standards, PC networking, Master Control facilities and hub operations, and network storage systems, including broadcast trucks, fly packs, and fiber kits.
Qualifications and experience
- At least 2 years of hands-on remote production operations experience in a network-level video role.
- Strong working knowledge of live production equipment and how it is operated.
- Comfortable reading and using waveform and vectorscope tools across SDI and IP workflows, including HD, UHD, and HDR formats.
- Able to manage the overall camera look and shading requirements.
- Capable of monitoring and adjusting signals and monitors as needed.
- Experience setting up, running, and breaking down video equipment on site.
- Strong troubleshooting ability, technical judgment, and communication skills for explaining issues and resolutions clearly.
- Must have schedule flexibility for travel, weekends, and holidays based on production needs.
Preferred background
- Broad understanding of broadcast equipment and the demands of remote production.
- Familiarity with fiber optic systems and cabling.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- A bachelor's degree is preferred.
Working conditions and compensation
This is a remote position. The role requires availability for nights, weekends, and holidays.
Compensation is $70 to $90 per hour. Actual pay may differ depending on geographic region, role-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors. Eligible benefits may include medical, financial, and other offerings depending on the level and position.
