About the role
The Institute of International and European Affairs (IIEA), an independent think tank in Dublin, is recruiting a Research Intern to help support its research and events work during the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU. The assignment can last for up to 6 months, subject to the candidate’s availability and start date, and will end on 31 December 2026.
This opportunity is well suited to recent graduates who want practical exposure to international affairs, EU policy, and public-facing research work. The position is based in Dublin and the successful candidate will mainly work from the IIEA offices at 8 North Great George’s Street, Dublin 1.
What you will do
- Support research on important developments in EU policy, EU institutions, and European politics.
- Assist with research for analytical papers, blogs, explainers, and other written outputs on EU and international affairs.
- Help plan, organise, and deliver keynote talks, seminars, roundtables, and workshops.
- Work with members, speakers, and guests when needed.
- Help coordinate a working group of experts drawn from across the IIEA’s research areas.
- Contribute to the IIEA’s relationships with Irish and EU stakeholders, including government departments, EU bodies, NGOs, and universities.
- Support the creation and delivery of research programmes and events involving prominent speakers from Ireland and abroad.
What the role offers
This internship gives the chance to work closely with the IIEA research team and report directly to the Director of Research. The role offers first-hand experience in EU and international policy research, access to leaders in policy, politics, and business, and the opportunity to build a strong network within Irish and European policy circles.
Application process
The application deadline is Friday, 26 June 2026. Candidates should send a CV and cover letter with the subject line “Research Intern – Application” to the stated email address. Applications submitted through LinkedIn will not be reviewed. Only shortlisted candidates will receive a response. Any attempt to influence the process through canvassing will lead to disqualification.
Compensation
The internship is paid at €32,000 per year on a pro rata basis.
