Role overview
The Senior Category Manager for Drinks will own the financial performance, assortment planning, pricing approach, and marketing direction for the Drinks department across Gopuff, BevMo, and Liquor Barn. This position calls for someone who understands a regulated industry, thinks like a merchant, and can work closely with partners across Supply Chain, Distributors, Suppliers, Legal, and Digital Merchandising to shape a strong and customer-friendly assortment.
The right candidate will bring a solid analytical foundation and use data and pricing insights to guide strategy. Success in this role also depends on strong problem-solving ability and comfort working in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial setting.
Work setup
This is a hybrid role with three in-office days each week, from Tuesday through Thursday, in either the Philadelphia or Miami office. The company emphasizes in-person collaboration, quick decision-making, and cross-functional teamwork.
Responsibilities
- Develop a thorough understanding of the app, retail store operations, internal workflows, and the overall control-label assortment.
- Own the selection, pricing, and placement strategy for smoke shop products.
- Partner with category managers to build plans and initiatives that improve product sales.
- Coordinate with suppliers and distributors to keep inventory levels healthy across the network.
- Track performance across multiple classes and locations, then turn the findings into forward-looking strategies.
- Use internal and external data sources to make informed decisions that support incremental sales growth.
- Create and refine assortment plans based on territory-specific needs, including volume, pack size, distribution, and local market trends.
- Run competitive shopping and pricing reviews at both national and local levels to ensure important products are represented well and margin goals are achieved.
- Stay current on category developments and market competition.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree is required; merchandising, business, or economics is preferred.
- At least 8 years of experience in merchandising.
- Strong knowledge of merchandising, financial planning, and supply chain operations.
- Proven ability to take initiative and own business outcomes.
- Ability to respond quickly and work with urgency.
- Experience using research, syndicated data, and consumer insights to guide assortment and category decisions.
- Ability to work across a wide range of product lines relevant to the customer base.
- Advanced computer skills, with Excel proficiency required.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational habits.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Awareness of the current brand and product mix, with an eye for identifying opportunities.
Compensation and benefits
The base pay range for this position is $120,000 to $150,000 per year. Pay is influenced by market conditions, location, skills, experience, qualifications, and interview performance. The company notes that the range may change in the future and that exceptions can be made for exceptional candidates.
This role is also eligible for a discretionary annual cash bonus and participation in an equity incentive plan.
