Role Overview
In this senior DevOps-focused distributed systems role, you will help design and run cloud infrastructure for large-scale engineering environments. The position involves working across AWS and GCP technologies, building automation to support maintenance and operations, and partnering with Platform Engineering to deploy and validate changes in engineering environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect infrastructure and automated systems that support a distributed platform.
- Develop and improve CI/CD pipelines with a focus on faster delivery, higher reliability, and shorter lead times.
- Investigate performance issues and drive optimization work at both infrastructure and application layers.
- Partner with engineering teams to achieve demanding customer-facing SLOs and SLAs.
- Operate highly available web and backend services that support millions of users and thousands of requests per second.
- Work with developers to provision and plan cloud services for new features on AWS.
- Strengthen security across the cloud layer and application layer, including IAM and PKI practices.
- Build and expand monitoring and alerting for infrastructure and business operations using internal tooling and third-party SaaS integrations.
- Increase infrastructure-as-code coverage across the platform.
- Create tools that improve developer productivity and reduce manual effort.
- Automate repetitive operational work and lower day-to-day support overhead.
Requirements
- At least 7 years of DevOps experience.
- At least 5 years of database administration experience with Postgres, MariaDB, or MSSQL.
- At least 4 years of experience managing large-scale distributed microservice deployments on Kubernetes and EC2.
- At least 4 years of experience building and operating EKS clusters, along with strong knowledge of the Kubernetes ecosystem.
- A BS in Computer Science, a related discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience with large-scale systems.
- Deep experience with AWS, including multi-region environments and Terraform.
- Ability to build tooling and services using Python, TypeScript, Go, or Bash, with an automation-first mindset.
- Advanced knowledge of Kubernetes and Docker, including service mesh technologies such as Istio or Linkerd.
- Experience scaling and troubleshooting highly available databases such as PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, and Redis, plus messaging systems like Kafka, RabbitMQ, or SQS.
- Strong capability in observability stacks such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or OpenSearch.
- Experience integrating secure CI/CD practices into GitHub CI or GitLab CI.
- Strong debugging and systems analysis skills across networking and application layers.
- Security-conscious approach to infrastructure as code, container builds, and microservice deployment.
Work Model
The company uses a flexible work approach that blends in-person and remote collaboration. Teams are expected to spend at least 50% of their time each quarter in the office or out in the field with customers, prospects, or partners, depending on the role. Employees in remote home-office roles may still meet in offices for important moments when needed.
Accessibility and Hiring Information
Workday provides an inclusive hiring process and can offer accommodations if needed during recruitment. If assistance is required, candidates may contact the company by email. The company also notes that it will not request applications through non-Workday websites, will not ask candidates to pay recruiting fees, and will not require payment for coaching or consulting services to apply.
