About the company
Playground Games is a first-party Xbox studio focused on creating memorable, genre-leading games that are visually impressive, approachable to play, and enjoyable at their core. The team is currently working on a fresh take on the Fable franchise and is growing to build a new benchmark in the action RPG space.
Role overview
They are seeking a Senior Game Designer to join the Fable team on a permanent basis. In this position, you will take ownership of major design areas, help shape the studio’s processes and pipelines, and operate as a dependable, self-directed contributor. You’ll also help uphold quality standards across the game. The role calls for someone adaptable, driven, and easy to work with.
The ideal candidate is an accomplished designer with broad game design expertise, a practical approach to implementation, and a solid history of delivering strong work.
Work location and setup
This is a permanent position based at the studio’s facilities in Royal Leamington Spa. The company follows a hybrid model, with at least 3 days per week required in the studio. Relocation support may be provided if needed.
Key duties
- Build systems and features using the studio’s custom proprietary engine and tools, ensuring they meet the project’s quality and vision targets.
- Develop and keep up-to-date detailed feature and system design documentation.
- Collaborate closely with a talented, cross-functional team to move the project forward.
What the role requires
- Experience across the full game development cycle in design roles, preferably on a notable AAA release.
- Strong written and spoken communication skills.
- Capability to design game systems and mechanics while bringing other disciplines into alignment with the design direction.
- Hands-on experience implementing features with scripting tools or similar development tools.
- Excellent problem-solving ability through all phases of development.
- Comfort working with teammates who bring different perspectives.
- Proven reliability and the ability to work independently.
- A clear record of delivering high-quality work.
- Strong enthusiasm for games.
- Text-based scripting in C++, C#, or a similar language is preferred, though not mandatory.
