Actuarial Analyst - GI

Role overview

This position is responsible for delivering actuarial assistance to the assigned line of business and contributing to the organisation’s wider risk management efforts.

Key responsibilities

• Choose the most suitable reserve valuation approach and compute the required reserves.
• Prepare analytical support for reviewing and renegotiating existing contracts.
• Contribute actuarial input to product design and development for the line of business.
• Support product pricing decisions and system configuration within the actuarial pricing and valuation platform.
• Assess and track product experience to guide business decisions, including profit testing of current products.
• Compile detailed quarterly actuarial reports for the business and raise important issues continuously, including solvency and capital monitoring matters.
• Respond to issues identified by the IRA during risk inspections and keep emerging risks under review.
• Carry out additional related duties as assigned from time to time.

Qualifications and experience

The successful candidate should hold a degree in Actuarial Science or another strongly numerate discipline. Strong progress toward qualification with the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, or another equally recognised actuarial body, is required, with at least 8 actuarial exams attempted and passed. Applicants should bring 4–6 years of experience in an actuarial or product development role within a mature insurance or financial services environment. Exposure to both life and non-life product lines is preferred. Experience working across departments and with multiple stakeholders is also important, along with a demonstrated interest in innovation within insurance and financial services.

Technical competencies

• Application of statistical methods and techniques.
• Working knowledge of the insurance industry in Kenya.
• Understanding of reinsurance structures and arrangements.
• Ability to use statistical software or basic programming tools such as SAS or Visual Basic.
• Experience with database management systems.
