Role overview

Sobeys is looking to add a full-time Buyer to its team. The position may be located at one of the company’s main offices in Montreal, QC, Vaughan, or Toronto, ON. The role sits within a major Canadian grocery organization known for broad retail operations and a strong focus on customer service.

What you will do

• Track performance against key measures such as service level, web shop availability, inventory turnover, and fresh-product shrink.
• Oversee service level and inventory results for assigned categories.
• Handle replenishment activities, including purchase order processing for regular demand, promotions, and investment purchases.
• Be responsible for service levels and inventory turns.
• Help build and carry out inventory control practices that improve or exceed targets for customer fill rate, freshness, shrink reduction, and inventory turns.
• Make sure replenishment work supports budget goals and aligns with regional and banner strategies.
• Review vendor performance, especially order fill and timely delivery, and take corrective action where needed.
• Work with vendors and internal teams such as Category Management, Merchandising, Replenishment, and Logistics to identify improvement opportunities.
• Maintain accountability for service levels and inventory turns.

What the role calls for

• A bachelor’s degree plus at least 2 years of related experience, or a DEC with at least 4 years of relevant experience.
• Working knowledge of demand forecasting and inventory planning concepts.
• Strong intermediate-level Excel capability.
• Buying experience in fresh produce is an advantage.
• Experience using SAP is considered a plus.
