Certified Procedure Coder-MGC

Position Overview

The Certified Procedure Coder will examine provider documentation and translate it into accurate CPT, ICD-10, and modifier assignments for professional services. This role also supports provider education on coding, handles daily billing-related tasks, and carries out additional responsibilities assigned by the Practice Manager.

Key Responsibilities

• Review clinical notes in the electronic medical record, spot missing or incomplete documentation, and follow up with providers to get it completed.
• Select the correct ICD-10 and CPT codes for professional services.
• Apply modifiers where they are appropriate.
• Check provider audits and make corrections when warranted.
• Educate providers on coding and billing practices.
• Process charge corrections.
• Coordinate daily billing activities with PBS.
• Keep coding knowledge current and maintain certification status.
• Work with minimal supervision and manage tasks independently.
• Oversee denied claim management.
• Complete any other duties assigned by the Practice Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Candidate must hold either CPC or CCS-P certification.
• No prior experience is required for the minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate degree is preferred.
• At least 2 years of billing and coding experience is preferred.
