The credit function plays a key role in protecting the organization from local business risks through structured checks, sound evaluation, and consistent control measures.Role contextThe Area Credit Manager acts as a first-line approval authority within the risk structure and is expected to handle risk and credit operations in line with company guidelines and norms. The role requires direct interaction with customers during underwriting and site/property visits, so familiarity with legal documentation and valuation processes is important. Because the business also includes exposure to construction-linked funding, the role must account for the added risk of incomplete under-construction projects.As the company is in a phase of rapid expansion, this position must balance risk discipline with growth support, while avoiding undue sub-prime exposure and safeguarding long-term business stability. The housing finance environment also varies by state and location, so the role demands awareness of regional practices and regulatory interpretations.Key responsibilitiesHandle credit and risk processing for assigned cases in line with approved frameworks and operating principles.Assess borrower creditworthiness and approve proposals within the delegated approval matrix.Seek guidance on complex files and provide support to peers where required.Coordinate with Risk team colleagues for legal, technical, and valuation-related clarifications.Work with Credit Processing Analysts and Credit Analysts to ensure files are captured correctly and examined thoroughly.Collaborate with Sales and Operations teams through structured processes to support timely decisions and issue resolution.Escalate matters to the Regional Credit Manager when needed.Maintain compliance with risk controls, policy norms, and maker-checker requirements.Prepare and maintain MIS, reports, and escalation-related documentation as required.Support exception handling, collateral valuation, PDD completion, and cheque bounce collection activities.Coordinate with Collections and Operations teams to monitor delinquency and improve recovery outcomes.Raise complex recovery, delinquency, or NPA-avoidance cases for senior review.Partner with Sales and Operations to support business growth in a controlled and sustainable way.Build knowledge of legal papers, technical documents, property practices, and local market norms to improve underwriting quality.Maintain effective working relationships with internal stakeholders for smooth handling of exceptions and escalations.RequirementsCA or MBA in Finance.Minimum 4 to 7 years of experience in a bank, NBFC, or HFC.At least 2 to 3 recent years of experience in risk management and underwriting within an HFC.Strong commercial understanding and the ability to assess business risk.Good analytical ability for underwriting and decision-making.Effective interpersonal and presentation skills.Strong execution discipline and process orientation.Working knowledge of legal and technical documents related to property and lending.Awareness of property market practices and location-specific regulatory norms.Additional informationThe role is based in Delhi, Delhi, India and is a full-time onsite position.
