Daycare Kitchen Assistant

Role Overview

As a Daycare Kitchen Assistant, you will report to the Centre Director and play an important part in keeping the daycare kitchen running smoothly. The position focuses on preparing and cooking food in line with Kids & Company standards and supporting the organisation’s mission.

Key Responsibilities

• Handle everyday kitchen tasks such as warming food, prepping vegetables and starches, slicing fruit, portioning meals, washing dishes, and delivering food to classrooms.
• Support the Chef with meal preparation, baking, and snacks for children who have special dietary needs.
• Store food correctly, dispose of it safely when needed, keep temperature records up to date, and follow health rules and food safety practices.
• Wash and sanitize dishware properly after it is collected from classrooms.
• Maintain the kitchen cleaning timetable, covering daily, weekly, and monthly duties.
• Adapt to changing centre requirements and take on additional duties as needed.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of experience working as a Kitchen Assistant.
• High School diploma or GED.
• Food Handler Certification, or a willingness to obtain it.
• Daycare experience is considered an advantage.
• Valid driver’s licence and a clean driving abstract.
• Good communication abilities.
• Clear criminal record check.
• Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 45 pounds.
