Job summary
This role is focused on keeping the store clean, safe, and sanitary. The associate helps maintain floor surfaces, restrooms, and back-of-house areas so the shopping environment supports customer trust and loyalty. The position also contributes to an inclusive workplace by respecting the varied backgrounds and experiences of coworkers.
Key duties
- Maintain cleanliness and safety in the sales floor, liquor store, offices, breakrooms, backrooms, training rooms, and about 70% of restroom areas.
- Use floor-care machines, department equipment, tools, and cleaning chemicals appropriately.
- Sweep or vacuum mats and rugs and return them to their proper places.
- Remove carpet spots, empty trash, and carry out deep-cleaning tasks in restrooms.
- Help create a welcoming atmosphere by assisting customers and supporting a positive shopping experience.
- Keep daily store conditions aligned with company expectations for sanitation and cleanliness.
- Provide basic help to customers who are looking for products or need direction.
- Follow food-safety, sanitation, and productivity standards at all times.
- Comply with regulatory requirements related to food safety, USDA rules, COOL, and DOA guidelines.
- Carry out recalls and withdrawals promptly, making sure affected items are secured and kept away from customers.
- Support safety programs by following procedures, spotting hazards, and reporting unsafe conditions to management.
- Report customer or employee accidents, as well as any safety concerns, fraud, theft, robbery, or other illegal activity.
- Follow wage-and-hour rules and help build a strong safety culture in the store.
- Make sure associates have the required safety training and use appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Check that hazardous assessments are available for associate reference.
- Monitor equipment condition and report issues, including lockout/tagout-related safety concerns, for corrective action.
- Perform other job-related duties as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- English is required; Spanish is preferred.
- 0 to 3 years of relevant experience.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States, or be able to obtain authorization.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
- Strong customer service ability is required.
- Good interpersonal, communication, and motivational skills are needed.
Working conditions
This is a retail position with heavy physical demands. The job involves standing or walking on different flooring types, using both hands and feet repeatedly, and frequently reaching, carrying, pushing, or lifting loads up to the required limits. Occasional sitting, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing up to 30 feet may be required.
Work may take place indoors or outdoors and in cold, freezing, heated, or wet and humid conditions. The role may involve slippery or cluttered floors, hazardous equipment, sharp objects, loud noise, dust, fumes, sprays, cleaning chemicals, and other irritants or toxins.
Common equipment includes cleaning tools and supplies, office equipment, registers, pricing guns, scales, scanners, and material-handling equipment such as racks, carts, pallet jacks, and shopping carts. Preferred equipment includes a baler/compactor and box cutter. Personal protective equipment includes goggles, gloves, and a back brace.
Pulling requirement: 250 lbs. Lifting requirement: 50 lbs. Travel may be occasional, with no overnight travel. Shifts vary.
