Housekeeper Temporary Position

Role Overview

This is a temporary housekeeping assignment intended to fill in during a maternity leave. The engagement is expected to run for about 3 to 4 months. The position is full time and based onsite in Ridgeway, Ontario, Canada.

Compensation and Schedule

The hourly pay for this role is $19.00. The current shift pattern is full time and includes the following hours:

• Monday: 10:30 am to 7:00 pm
• Tuesday: 5:00 am to 1:30 pm
• Wednesday: 5:00 am to 1:30 pm
• Friday: 6:00 am to 2:30 pm
• Saturday: 6:00 am to 2:30 pm

Role Summary

The Housekeeper is responsible for helping maintain a clean, safe, and organized setting for residents, staff, and visitors. The position supports a healthy and comfortable environment by keeping all facility areas clear of debris, odors, and obstacles.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness in shared spaces such as lobbies, restrooms, drinking fountains, and floors.
• Regularly clean and sanitize resident rooms and bathrooms.
• Keep handrails free from dust and debris.
• Remove dirt, dust, and food buildup from walls, mirrors, windows, light fixtures, towel bars, and dispensers.
• Empty waste bins and replace liners when required.
• Sweep and mop floors across the facility.
• Follow safety procedures, including placing caution signs and securing chemical products properly.
• Use cleaning tools and supplies in line with manufacturer directions.
• Keep housekeeping carts, equipment, and storage areas tidy, sanitary, and well organized.
• Escalate resident safety concerns right away to the Director of Housekeeping, Administrator, or Director of Nursing.
• Inform the Director of Housekeeping when supplies are running low.
• Deliver friendly, professional customer service and maintain a positive attitude.
• Work efficiently, manage time well, and complete assigned tasks on schedule.
• Carry out duties independently or collaboratively to meet facility expectations.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Prior housekeeping experience in a healthcare or long-term care environment is an advantage. Candidates should be able to follow instructions and safety rules, pay close attention to cleanliness and detail, communicate well with others, and read procedure manuals and written directions. Basic arithmetic skills are also needed, along with the ability to solve practical problems, interpret different forms of instructions, and handle situations with limited standardization.

Physical Requirements

This role involves frequent walking, standing, bending, and reaching, as well as repetitive cleaning motions. Candidates must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 lbs and work with cleaning tools and supplies throughout the shift. The job also requires the ability to keep pace in a busy environment and respond quickly when needed.
