About Petrofac
Petrofac is an established international services company serving the energy sector, with a broad customer base that includes many of the world’s major energy operators. The company develops, constructs, operates, and sustains infrastructure for its clients.
Petrofac says it hires, rewards, and grows its workforce strictly on merit and does not discriminate on the basis of race, nationality, religion, gender, age, sexual orientation, marital status, or disability. It also emphasizes fair treatment for everyone working with or alongside the business.
As the energy sector reshapes supply and security priorities and moves toward phased alternatives, Petrofac positions itself as a partner helping clients respond to these changing requirements.
The company also supports flexible working arrangements and uses a hybrid model for most office-based roles, requiring employees to work from the office at least three days each week.
Role Overview
This opening is for Inspector I - Quality (EIT) at the Abu Dhabi site. The position focuses on quality inspection, testing, and witnessing of electrical works and equipment across construction, installation, pre-commissioning, and final handover stages.
Key Responsibilities
- Check and test temporary electrical installations, including connections to camp facilities when needed.
- Verify support installations before cable tray placement and inspect cable tray or conduit runs before cable laying begins.
- Review underground stub-ups, cable trenches, sand bedding, cable segregation, and backfilling readiness at each stage.
- Observe cable jointing, termination, glanding, dressing, and final torquing to ensure vendor guidance is followed.
- Witness insulation resistance, continuity, hi-pot, ductor, operational, earth resistance, earth loop, charging/discharging, and other required electrical tests as per ITP or vendor documentation.
- Inspect and witness switchgear, transformers, MCCs, bus ducts, batteries, chargers, UPS systems, motors, local control stations, distribution boards, lighting circuits, and associated equipment.
- Monitor preservation of switchgear, transformers, bus ducts, motors, and other equipment throughout the project lifecycle.
- Review installation and testing of earthing, lightning protection, cathodic protection, heat tracing, diesel generators, HVAC equipment, and overhead power distribution or transmission lines.
- Carry out detailed inspection of certified electrical equipment in line with IEC 60079-17 and IEC 60079-14 requirements, including correct interpretation of labels and IP ratings.
- Ensure equipment protection rating is maintained and verify installation quality against applicable standards and project requirements.
- Record and report inspection results, witness points, and compliance observations for electrical quality control activities.
Requirements
- A Diploma in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent qualification is required.
- Prior experience as an Electrical QC Inspector is necessary; the posting does not specify a minimum duration.
- Previous exposure to the oil and gas or petrochemical sector is expected.
- Experience with major EPC contractors or their subcontractors is required.
- For hazardous-area inspections, the candidate must be trained in protection types, installation practices, IEC 60079-17, and IEC 60079-14, with documented proof of relevant experience and training.
- If such hazardous-area training has not yet been completed, in-house training (PEC-RCD-00384) must be taken before assigning any Ex inspections.
Work Location and Working Model
The role is based at an Abu Dhabi site. Petrofac also notes that many office-based roles follow a hybrid arrangement, with at least three in-office days per week.
