Junior Data Engineer

About the role

Council Ring Capital is hiring a Junior Data Engineer at the Junior/Associate level to help create dependable data pipelines and strengthen data-enabled decision-making across the business. This is a full-time remote opportunity for candidates in New Zealand who are early in their data careers and want to grow in a collaborative environment.

Key responsibilities

• Build, validate, and support ongoing maintenance of data pipelines and ETL/ELT workflows.
• Combine data from different sources and load it into centralized data platforms.
• Monitor data accuracy, completeness, and consistency across datasets.
• Partner with analytics and engineering teams to meet data requirements.
• Assist with database upkeep, performance improvement, and documentation.
• Investigate and help resolve issues related to data processing or availability.
• Contribute ideas and support efforts to improve data systems and working processes.

Requirements

• Junior/Associate-level profile with roughly 0–3+ years of experience.
• Some exposure to data-focused work through employment, internships, or academic projects.
• Working knowledge of SQL and at least one programming language such as Python.
• Understanding of core data concepts including ETL, APIs, and databases.
• Strong analytical thinking and a practical problem-solving approach.
• Interest in learning data engineering tools and cloud-based technologies.
• Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with a team.
• Fluent English.
• Must be based in New Zealand and legally permitted to work full-time.
