Role Overview
The Operations Engineer will support Chevron’s Asset Retirement organization, which manages a substantial set of equipment and infrastructure across multiple North American plant locations. These sites generally include water treatment systems, piping, rotating equipment, tanks, and other process assets. This role is focused on improving operating performance and lowering costs while keeping plant outputs within required specifications.
The engineer will help shape and implement operating and maintenance approaches, define new design foundations, build maintenance plans, create equipment sparing and idling approaches, and introduce remote monitoring and control solutions.
Work Schedule
Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, so working hours are aligned to business needs. Regular shifts are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 1:30 PM to 10:30 PM, Monday through Friday, and these hours may change depending on operational needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Review current plant basis of design and recommend updated design standards centered on minimum functional needs.
- Improve run-and-maintain economics by proposing operating and maintenance approaches that reduce both operating and upkeep costs.
- Study operational data to uncover patterns, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement, then share clear findings with management and AR teams.
- Track plant performance in real time through advanced monitoring tools and respond quickly when unusual conditions appear.
- Use digital systems and modern technologies to improve visibility into operations and support better decisions.
- Work with field personnel to coordinate prompt responses to operating issues and keep contractor and Chevron teams aligned.
- Maintain compliance with safety rules and environmental requirements while reinforcing a strong safety-first mindset.
Required Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Systems, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering, or a closely related discipline; relevant experience may be accepted instead of a degree.
- Minimum 5 years of experience supporting operations in a remote or onsite capacity, or in a similar role within manufacturing or oil and gas processing plants.
- Hands-on experience creating and applying operating and maintenance strategies for an entire plant.
- Strong analytical ability, along with practical use of data analysis tools and software.
- Capability to develop maintenance and reliability strategies for plant operations.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working across varied teams.
- Ability to handle a fast-moving environment, balance multiple priorities, and work independently with a self-driven approach.
- Working knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements for water treatment plants.
Preferred Background
Experience in manufacturing operations or water treatment operations is highly desirable.
