About the role
The University of Waikato is seeking an accomplished Payroll Manager to take ownership of a large, complex payroll operation and lead a team delivering a dependable, accurate, and compliant service. In this role, you will be responsible for the full payroll cycle, guiding improvements to systems and processes, and shaping payroll reporting and analytics. The position suits someone who can combine strategic thinking with hands-on operational leadership in a fast-moving environment.
This is a full-time role of 37.5 hours per week, based at the Hamilton Campus.

What you will do
- Lead the payroll team and oversee day-to-day payroll operations.
- Ensure payroll is processed accurately, on time, and in line with current legislation and compliance requirements.
- Manage every stage of the payroll cycle for a large and complex workforce.
- Drive improvements to payroll systems, workflows, and business processes.
- Develop and deliver payroll reporting and analytics.
- Build strong working relationships across departments and support collaborative outcomes.
- Act as the main subject matter expert for payroll-related matters.

- Capability in payroll reporting and data analysis.
- Strong technical understanding of payroll systems, including configuration, integration, and automation.
