Role Overview
Mackay Regional Council is seeking a Procurement Officer to strengthen its procurement function. In this position, you will help deliver cost-effective outcomes across Council by offering specialist procurement advice, supporting purchasing activities, and fostering productive working relationships with both internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
Reporting to the Procurement Operations Supervisor, you will help keep day-to-day procurement activities running smoothly, compliantly, and in line with Council policies and applicable legislation.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise Council employees on procurement matters and provide practical guidance.
- Action purchase requisitions in accordance with procurement procedures and policies.
- Keep records, contract coding, and supporting documentation accurate and up to date.
- Develop and sustain positive relationships with suppliers.
- Assist with supplier onboarding and compliance verification activities.
- Support analysis of procurement data and preparation of reports.
- Work with stakeholders to identify suitable procurement solutions.
- Track outstanding orders and help ensure they are processed without delay.
- Coordinate with Accounts Payable so payments are correct and made on time.
- Help improve procurement processes and promote best-practice approaches.
Essential Requirements
- Preparedness to complete a Criminal History Check.
- Prior experience working with procurement systems such as SAP, Finance One, or CiAnywhere.
- Background in procurement operations across government, private sector, or multi-industry settings.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to handle sensitive issues professionally.
- Proven ability to build effective relationships with internal teams and external partners.
- Well-developed organisational skills with the capacity to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
- Analytical ability to interpret and work with data.
- Good understanding of procurement practices and relevant Queensland/local government legislation.
- Advanced Microsoft Office capability, especially Excel.

- Certificate IV in Purchasing or another relevant procurement qualification.
