Shift Lead

Role overview

The Shift Lead keeps the store running smoothly when management is not available. This includes handling opening and closing duties, starting required systems, managing cash-related tasks, preparing the sales floor and stockroom for the day, and opening the back door for deliveries. The role also involves processing returns, voids, refunds, cash drops, and change requests while delivering a warm and reliable customer experience.

Customer experience

• Welcome shoppers and patients, offer help with products and services, and resolve questions or concerns to create a positive visit.
• Demonstrate strong service habits and coach teammates on customer-first behaviors such as courtesy, eye contact, proactive assistance, and following through until the customer is satisfied.

Store operations

• Hold store keys and independently open or close the location when management is unavailable.
• Support warehouse and vendor ordering by helping create, review, receive, and manage orders, including opening the back door for deliveries.
• Ring up sales on the assigned register and handle scanning errors, price checks, missing items, price adjustments, and void transactions.
• Help review order exceptions, manage reverse logistics tasks such as returns and empty packages, and support order release day activities.
• Assist with display setup and maintenance, including promotional, seasonal, structural, and sale displays, as well as resets and revisions.
• Maintain accurate inventory counts across the sales floor, stockroom, and overstock areas.
• Support the outdate process with the team to reduce expired product issues.
• Make basic pricing changes, post required signage, and complete any price-related tasks tied to local rules or compliance programs within the required timeline.
• Help with bookkeeping tasks such as cash reports, cash counts, ledgers, and bill payments when needed.
• Keep the store clean, orderly, and presentable inside and outside, and request repairs for store or system issues when management is absent or as directed.
• Support proper food handling and product rotation, including separating raw and cooked foods, placing items correctly, using FIFO rotation, and restocking out-of-stock items.
• Assist with the Pickup program and maintain working knowledge of store systems and equipment.
• Provide pharmacy drive-thru support where permitted by law and where licensure, certification, or registration requirements are met.
• Ensure compliance with state and local regulations for controlled or regulated products such as alcohol and tobacco.
• Perform team member bag checks before employees leave the store.
• Follow company policies, maintain respectful workplace relationships, and complete assigned special projects and other duties.

Training and development

• Attend assigned training sessions and complete required PPLs as directed by management.

Communication

• Act as the connection between management and store team members by passing along tasks and updates when leadership is not on site.
• Escalate customer complaints and disciplinary concerns to management.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of prior experience in leadership, supervision, or a retail key-holder role.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently, except in Puerto Rico.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
• Preferred: familiarity with store inventory control.
• Preferred: ability to obtain and maintain PTCB or ExCPT certification, or a pharmacy license, as required by state rules.

Compensation

Hourly pay is listed at $17 to $20.
