Role overview
This Auckland-based contract role is for a UX/UI Designer who can combine customer insight, business goals, and strong visual execution to deliver polished digital experiences across web and mobile. The position sits in a mature digital product environment and involves close collaboration with delivery, product, engineering, and digital marketing teams.
Key responsibilities
- Take a customer-first approach while balancing end-user needs with business priorities.
- Bring UX and UI thinking into the team’s delivery process and day-to-day ways of working.
- Work alongside digital delivery teams, digital marketing, and the UX Manager to meet timelines and maintain design quality.
- Create complete design deliverables, including user journeys, wireframes, interactive prototypes, high-fidelity interfaces, and assets ready for development.
- Work within brand standards and an established design system to keep outputs consistent and high quality.
- Spot opportunities for customer research and usability testing, and run testing sessions where required.
- Contribute to the development and upkeep of the design system with best-practice thinking around interaction design, visual design, and accessibility.
- Prepare web and app page assets and layouts that are accessible, consistent, and ready for handoff to production teams.
Requirements
- At least 5 to 7+ years of experience in UX design, including information architecture, user flows, wireframing, and prototyping for web and mobile.
- At least 5 to 7+ years of UI design experience with strong attention to typography, colour, composition, and iconography.
- Deep understanding of UX/UI best practices for desktop, responsive web, and native mobile products.
- Confidence working within design systems and pattern libraries, with awareness of governance and consistency.
- Good working knowledge of accessibility standards, especially WCAG, and how to apply them in design work and system components.
- Advanced proficiency with design and prototyping tools, ideally Figma, and possibly Sketch, Miro, InDesign, and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience running usability tests and converting customer feedback into design improvements.
- Background working in agile teams and collaborating closely with developers and product stakeholders.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain and justify design decisions clearly.
- A practical, adaptable, detail-focused mindset with the ability to balance quality and timelines.
- A portfolio showing user-centred design across web, mobile, and app experiences.
- A relevant qualification such as a Bachelor’s degree in design, psychology, HCI/human factors, or equivalent experience.
Additional information
This is an Auckland, on-site contract opportunity within an established digital product environment. The role offers end-to-end ownership across UX, UI, prototyping, and final asset delivery for web and app. You’ll work on a high-profile customer-facing platform with frequent releases and visible impact, alongside an experienced User Experience Manager and cross-functional squads. The role also provides the chance to shape and improve a mature design system, including components and patterns, while contributing to discovery, delivery, and optimisation work informed by customer research and testing. The working style is collaborative, with close alignment across Product, Delivery, Engineering, and Digital Marketing.
