About the Project
Future Generation Joint Venture (FGJV) combines the engineering capability of WeBuild, Clough and Lane and has been chosen to design and build Snowy 2.0. The project is located in the Snowy Mountains region of New South Wales and is set to deliver one of the world’s largest pumped-hydro schemes.
Snowy 2.0 represents the next stage in the Snowy Scheme’s history. It is Australia’s largest committed renewable energy project and will provide dispatchable power and large-scale storage for future generations. This landmark initiative is expected to leave a lasting mark on Australian history.
Role Purpose
This position is centred on supporting cost-control activities so that project resources, including capital and labour, are used as effectively as possible.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering management or a comparable qualification
- A bachelor’s degree in commerce or a comparable qualification
- White Card
Experience
- At least 5 years’ experience in a comparable role, with a background in cost control and project estimating on major infrastructure projects, preferably in a construction setting
- Hands-on experience on large-scale construction projects or other similar works
- Advanced capability in Microsoft Excel and STR Vision CPM
Required Competencies
- Proven ability to build effective working relationships with operations leadership and support value-added management reporting
- Strong communication, planning and problem-solving abilities
- A proactive mindset with flexibility to respond to shifting priorities
- The capacity to work to deadlines and put in the effort required to complete the job well
- Strong numeracy and computer skills, along with proficiency across MS Office applications including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
- Clear verbal and written communication skills
- Well-developed organisational and interpersonal skills
- High attention to detail and the ability to spot inconsistencies
- Working knowledge of SAP
Core Accountabilities
- Oversee project progress, analysis and cost management in line with the FGJV approved budget and available resources
- Prepare and review the executive budget twice each year, or sooner if a material change occurs
- Review monthly differences between forecast and actual costs for labour, inventory and subcontractors
- Work with the project management team to help keep spending within budget
- Provide the Finance Manager with analysis and forecasting based on specific requirements
- Track the financial progress of the project
- Make sure expenditure is properly captured and documented
- Carry out gap analysis for cost-control activities
- Visit and audit the construction site to confirm cost-control procedures are being followed
- Prepare production statistics
- Compile the monthly report
- Set up and maintain cost-control procedures
- Identify the most effective use of resources
