Role overview

This opportunity is with an established UK civil engineering contractor that is growing its pre-construction function. The business is hiring several Estimators at different experience levels to help deliver a strong pipeline of infrastructure and earthworks work.

What the role involves

The position plays a key part in pre-construction, focusing on building accurate cost plans and competitive bids that help secure new projects. You will handle the estimating process from the first review of an enquiry and scope through to submission of the final tender, collaborating with technical colleagues, suppliers and the wider supply chain to achieve commercially viable outcomes.

Core duties

• Develop detailed pricing for materials, labour, plant and subcontracted works.
• Review drawings, specifications and project information to establish a clear and complete scope.
• Manage the tender workflow so estimates are coordinated internally and delivered within deadline.
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations.
• Prepare handover packs and supporting documentation for delivery teams, while helping raise estimating quality and consistency.

Candidate profile

The ideal applicant will have estimating experience in civil engineering, infrastructure or earthworks, with a proven ability to create first-principles cost models. You should be highly analytical, commercially aware and exceptionally detail-focused, with strong communication and stakeholder management capability. Confidence using standard estimating software and advanced Microsoft Excel is also important.

Experience and qualifications

Applicants should typically bring at least 3 years of estimating experience in civil engineering, earthworks or a closely related area. Experience with large or technically complex projects, plus knowledge of UK specifications and cost drivers, will be beneficial. A background in civil engineering, quantity surveying, construction management or a similar discipline is preferred.

Additional information

This is a full-time role based in Bath, Somerset, within the South West region of the UK. The salary is £70,000 to £90,000 per year, with benefits and package included. The posting reference is BBBH4622_1782380809.
