Role overview
This Chennai-based position sits within the Firmware Innovation Centre and is centered on building high-performance wireless firmware for Wi‑Fi 6 and Wi‑Fi 7 chipsets. The work spans embedded software across upper MAC, lower MAC, data/control paths, and RTOS-based performance tuning.
What you will do
- Build, improve, and support firmware components for data and control paths.
- Work on upper MAC, lower MAC, and PHY integration for Wi‑Fi stacks.
- Contribute to enhancements for Wi‑Fi 6 and Wi‑Fi 7 protocols.
- Investigate and resolve firmware issues affecting throughput, stability, and overall performance.
- Partner with hardware, RF, and systems teams to keep firmware behavior aligned across layers.
- Develop and tune firmware for real-time embedded systems while meeting timing and KPI targets.
- Take part in code reviews, platform bring-up, and production delivery of firmware.
- Support compliance work for regulatory and feature requirements such as FCC, ETSI, DFS, CCA, and Spectral Scan.
What the role requires
- 5 to 8 years of experience in embedded software development, preferably in Wi‑Fi or cellular firmware.
- Strong understanding of IEEE 802.11 standards, especially Wi‑Fi 6 and Wi‑Fi 7 at the MAC/PHY level, or related LTE/5G technologies.
- Practical experience with real-time embedded systems and RTOS environments.
- Ability to debug low-level stack issues, performance bottlenecks, and stability problems.
- Hands-on exposure to chipsets from Qualcomm, Broadcom, MediaTek, Intel, or similar vendors.
- Comfort using debugging and analysis tools such as Wireshark, GDB, iperf, and sniffer tools.
- Basic familiarity with host-side driver development, including cfg80211, nl80211, and netlink communication.
- Working knowledge of Linux wireless utilities such as hostapd and wpa_supplicant.
- Awareness of embedded Wi‑Fi ecosystems such as OpenWRT, Yocto, QSDK, and related user-space tools.
- Understanding of TDD/TDMA, FDD, and FDMA concepts.
- Basic exposure to bootloaders, BSP bring-up, and U‑Boot configuration.
- Knowledge of RF-related features like DFS, Spectral Scan, transmit power tuning, and channel calibration.
- Exposure to RF lab equipment, including spectrum analyzers, and calibration workflows.
Eligibility
Applicants must have at least 5 years of experience. The role is intended for Computer Science Engineering students.
Compensation
The annual pay range is ₹20,00,000 to ₹35,00,000.
