Role overview
This is a remote software engineering contract focused on training and evaluating advanced AI systems through realistic engineering work. The assignment is best suited to experienced developers who can work through unfamiliar codebases, assess technical decisions with confidence, and solve backend, full-stack, systems, or infrastructure challenges.
No background in artificial intelligence is necessary. The key requirement is solid engineering judgment, clear written communication, and the ability to judge code quality, architecture, tradeoffs, and implementation approach.
What you will do
- Tackle demanding engineering tasks spanning backend, full-stack, infrastructure, and systems-oriented work.
- Inspect, debug, refine, and describe code across varied technical stacks.
- Evaluate or propose solutions involving APIs, databases, services, integrations, testing, and deployment processes.
- Weigh decisions related to scalability, maintainability, speed, reliability, security, and developer experience.
- Write clear technical reasoning that explains why an approach is effective and what other options were considered.
- Work with the customer’s team on technical reviews, implementation choices, and problem-solving exercises.
- Ramp up quickly across new codebases, frameworks, and technical constraints.
Required background
- At least 5 years of practical software engineering experience.
- Strong hands-on exposure to at least one backend or full-stack environment such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, Java, C#, .NET, C++, Go, Ruby, PHP, or a similar stack.
- Experience creating, supporting, or assessing production-grade applications, APIs, services, databases, or integrations.
- Good command of core engineering principles, including debugging, testing, code quality, architecture, and technical tradeoffs.
- Ability to communicate complex technical decisions in a clear, objective way.
- Comfort reading and reasoning through unfamiliar code or technical specifications.
Preferred experience
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Experience with CI/CD, DevOps practices, containers, monitoring, or production operations.
- Familiarity with frontend frameworks such as React, Next.js, Angular, Vue, or React Native.
- Evidence of open-source work, public GitHub projects, technical writing, or other strong engineering samples.
- Background in mentoring engineers, reviewing code, or contributing to architecture decisions.
Job details
This is a contractor role requiring around 10 to 12 hours per week and can be performed remotely.
