Role overview
The Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor will oversee manufacturing engineering support within designated production cells. This position focuses on lean manufacturing deployment, engineering change implementation, inventory location setup, contract review, shop-floor documentation, standards validation, and facility or capital improvement work. The role also involves coordinating, leading, and backing SWAT team efforts to remove production blockers.
Key responsibilities
- Lead manufacturing engineering support for assigned cells and ensure day-to-day production needs are addressed.
- Partner with the wider team to help achieve operational targets and drive corrective actions when performance gaps appear.
- Track open manufacturing engineering tasks and keep work items up to date.
- Represent the manufacturing engineering function in meetings and other business forums.
- Define or select the equipment, tooling, and racking needed to support production.
- Review engineering change orders within the assigned cells or option groups and help put those changes into production.
- Assign default locations for all parts in the relevant manufacturing cells.
- Develop shop-floor instructions and hot sheets, and train staff on the required standards.
- Maintain plant and cell layouts, along with inventory, housekeeping, emergency, and security maps.
- Plan and support capital projects, equipment installations, and modification work.
- Drive lean initiatives such as 5S, value stream mapping, and setup reduction.
- Encourage continuous improvement and strong teamwork across functions.
- Lead or join SWAT meetings and follow through on actions needed to resolve issues across departments.
- Carry out process observations to confirm time standards remain fair and consistent.
- Maintain resource plans so production activities are properly staffed and supported.
- Check routings and submit routing change requests to process planning when needed.
- Perform contract reviews before launch to confirm production readiness.
- Take part in Non-Conforming Parts meetings and support decisions on non-conforming material.
- Support process planning and production engineering, including raising engineering change requests when appropriate.
- Participate in internal and supplier certifications and audits as required.
- Join daily SWAT calls, track issues that could affect sales or completion targets, and escalate matters when necessary.
Requirements
- An engineering degree or relevant technical coursework, combined with related work experience.
- Lean certification or equivalent hands-on Lean manufacturing experience.
- Background in a fast-moving manufacturing setting.
- Strong teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate effectively.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD or UniGraphics, plus solid Microsoft Office skills.
- Good communication, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to travel up to 10%.
