Planning Engineer

About the Role

This opportunity is for a Planning Engineer in Qatar with a focus on supporting the planning, scheduling, and control activities for engineering and construction projects. The role involves reviewing project execution, assessing technical issues, comparing alternatives, and recommending practical solutions. You will also help develop, implement, and maintain scheduling and project controls across design and construction programs.

Key Responsibilities

• Handle project planning, budgeting, cost phasing, and cost control from project start through closeout using computer-based tools such as Primavera Project Management (P6) and Primavera Contract Management (Expedition).
• Support the management of multiple concurrent projects within an integrated project services environment to help achieve business plan goals.
• Contribute to at least one completed project of comparable complexity and scale in a similar role.
• Use the latest versions of Primavera Project Management (P6) and Primavera Web Scheduling to review and monitor baseline and updated schedules and costs.
• Apply standardized Ashghal forms and reports available in Primavera Contract Management (Expedition), and evaluate contractor work program submissions, including narratives and supporting documents.
• Check actual progress against original plans and identify variances in performance.
• Track, adjust, and update the cost plan and cash flow forecasts, then consolidate results into monthly reports.
• Implement and maintain Earned Value Management System processes on the project.
• Prepare Extension of Time (EOT) assessments and issue recommendation reports.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, along with certification in project planning and scheduling, Primavera applications (Primavera Project Management/P6 and Primavera Contract Management/Expedition), and cost engineering.
• At least 10 years of experience, including work in a similar position with an engineering consultancy, supervision consultant, or project management consultancy.
• Background in infrastructure work such as roads, drainage, sewerage, and public works.
• Working engineering knowledge in one or more related areas such as electrical, mechanical, or civil disciplines.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Primavera Project Management/P6, Primavera Contract Management/Expedition, and Power BI.
• Excellent written and spoken English, with strong communication and presentation abilities.
• MMUP certification is mandatory.
• Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and collaborate with engineers, managers, and contractors.
• Well-developed organizational and time-management skills to handle competing priorities and multiple assignments.
• Understanding of local building codes, safety rules, and environmental requirements tied to infrastructure projects.
• Capability to produce progress reports, cost forecasts, and schedule updates for stakeholders.
• Strong problem-solving ability and sharp attention to detail, especially around schedule and budget compliance.
