Production Assistant

About the Role

United Exports is looking for a practical, dependable Production Assistant to help run day-to-day farm activities. In this role, you will work alongside the Production and Estate Managers to carry out production plans, guide farm workers, and help maintain strong output and quality standards.

This opportunity is well suited to someone who enjoys agriculture and performs well in an active, outdoor setting.

Key Performance Outputs

Field Supervision

• Oversee and organise everyday farm work carried out by pickers and general workers.
• Allocate duties so work output meets set productivity goals and quality expectations.
• Help train team members in harvesting, pruning, planting, and general maintenance tasks.
• Track productivity and product quality, stepping in with practical support when needed.

Hands-On Farm Work

• Take part in blueberry picking and selecting produce that meets quality standards.
• Carry out pruning, planting, and trellising activities.
• Assist with setting up and checking irrigation systems.
• Support fertilizer and crop protection application where trained to do so.
• Carry out routine field checks to spot plant health concerns or irrigation problems.

Operational Support

• Help with planning farm work on a daily and weekly basis.
• Track crop yields, harvest quantities, and labour performance.
• Keep accurate production documentation and timesheets.
• Assist with coordination between field activities and packing operations.

Resource Management

• Make sure tools and equipment are used correctly and kept in good condition.
• Watch stock levels for items such as fertilizers, trays, and irrigation supplies.
• Report equipment failures and help improve the efficient use of resources.

Health, Safety & Compliance

• Follow food safety, hygiene, and compliance requirements at all times.
• Ensure PPE is worn correctly and safe work practices are followed.
• Identify hazards and keep basic compliance records up to date.

Requirements

• A Certificate VI, Diploma, or Degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, or a similar discipline.
• Working knowledge of farm management systems and Microsoft Office.
• At least 2 years of experience in farm production, ideally with soft fruit or low-chill crops.
• Practical exposure to the full crop cycle, from land preparation through harvesting and ongoing maintenance.
• Understanding of crop production, irrigation, and pest control.
• Ability to observe farm conditions and resolve operational issues.
• Strong planning, organisation, and problem-solving ability.
• Good team leadership and communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage people effectively.
• Flexibility to adapt to seasonal work patterns and changing weather conditions.
• Attention to detail and a results-focused approach.
• Ability to stay effective when working under pressure.
