Role Overview

The Traffic Control Flagger is responsible for guiding vehicle movement around construction zones, road maintenance areas, and other active work sites. The job includes placing and removing cones, signs, barricades, and other traffic control equipment to help protect workers and the public. This position calls for strong focus, comfort working outdoors in changing weather, and the ability to remain on your feet for long periods.

Key Duties

• Install traffic control signs, cones, and related devices around work zones to redirect vehicles safely.
• Direct traffic using stop/slow paddles and other approved methods.
• Communicate clearly with crew members using two-way radios.
• Stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms for up to 10 hours per day.
• Lift, carry, push, pull, and move items weighing more than 50 pounds.
• Operate company vehicles to move traffic control equipment to and from job locations.
• Carry out routine vehicle checks and basic maintenance inspections.
• Work in outdoor conditions and around moving equipment, traffic, fumes, airborne particles, and machine parts.
• Work in an environment that is usually moderate to loud.
• Follow company policies and procedures at all times.
• Handle other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to pass a background screening, including a motor vehicle records check.
• Ability to pass a drug test and satisfy federal DOT requirements.
• Willingness to wear required safety gear, including work boots with safety toe, hard hat, safety glasses, and safety vest.
• Ability to use a two-way radio.
• Comfortable working in different weather conditions and traffic environments.
• Strong communication skills for working with contractors and internal teams while maintaining high customer service standards.
• Team-oriented mindset.
• Reliable attendance, dependable transportation, and a solid work ethic.
• Completion of ATSSA Flagger training and company-sponsored Defensive Driver training.
• Willingness to travel statewide, including occasional overnight travel.
• Availability to work nights, weekends, and a rotating on-call schedule as needed.
