Role overview
This position is focused on planning and coordinating turnaround work for rotating equipment in a way that is safe, efficient, and cost-conscious. The aim is to strengthen plant safety, quality, and reliability while keeping all assigned work aligned with approved schedules and budgets.
The role involves building the scope of work for critical rotating assets such as turbines and compressors using site feedback and inspection findings, then preparing preliminary cost estimates for materials and service needs. It also requires close collaboration with maintenance teams, technical and facility maintenance functions, contractors, Production HSE, logistics, and other disciplines to keep the turnaround master plan current before execution.
All turnaround activities must be delivered within the approved budget and schedule, and in full compliance with QAFCO occupational health, quality, safety, and environmental standards.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee rollout of the turnaround execution plan for rotating machinery, including detailed scheduling, efficient use of resources, and clear coordination with stakeholders and contractors so the work is completed on time.
- Work with all involved parties to keep execution running smoothly by aligning priorities, clearing blockers, and putting recovery actions in place when delays arise.
- Track turnaround progress through schedules, performance measures, and trend reviews to spot variances and apply corrective action.
- Revise schedules to reflect unexpected or newly identified work during the turnaround, making sure every change is properly assessed and approved.
- Confirm that all pre-execution requirements are in place, including materials, manpower, tools, permits, and any other needed prerequisites.
- Assist with mechanical completion, punch-list closure, and readiness checks for pre-start-up activities to support a safe and efficient restart.
- Keep communication flowing across all teams so progress can be monitored continuously, issues can be resolved quickly, and schedule recovery actions can be coordinated.
- Follow up on turnaround milestones and report progress in the run-up to execution.
- Maintain complete turnaround records such as work lists, execution plans, schedules, risk logs, and closeout reports.
- Ensure turnaround data is entered and retained in centralized systems for traceability and future reference.
- Monitor key risks, issues, and action items, and escalate them when needed to secure timely closure.
- Help build team capability in turnaround planning methods, scheduling software, and related best practices.
- Keep SAP master data accurate and up to date for turnaround preventive maintenance activities, including task lists, maintenance plans, and equipment allocations.
- Identify and fix SAP master data issues such as inconsistencies, duplicates, and missing information so planning outputs remain reliable.
- Support the linking of SAP master data with planning systems such as Primavera to keep schedules and resource plans aligned.
Candidate profile
Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, preferably Mechanical Engineering. The role calls for at least 5 years of direct, relevant experience in a similar position, with preference for candidates from fertilizer companies. A strong practical understanding of machinery, machine components, inspection types, and equipment such as steam turbines, gas turbines, compressors, and gearboxes is required, along with familiarity with compressor house auxiliary and static equipment.
Work compliance and expectations
All turnaround work must be delivered within the approved budget and schedule while meeting occupational health, quality, safety, and environmental requirements. Planning should be systematic, well-coordinated, and economical, with attention to reliable documentation, data integrity, and cross-functional execution control.
