The position supports the dependable operation, upkeep, safeguarding, and general condition of the distribution network, including pipelines, service lines, hydrants, valves, and related equipment.

Compensation and growth

The posted pay rate is $31.36 per hour. This role may also qualify for annual incentive pay and negotiated wage increases under the collective bargaining agreement, along with opportunities for ongoing salary progression.

Responsibilities

• Support valve operations at customer locations by identifying the correct valves and using hand tools to open or shut off water flow.
• Break pavement and excavate work areas with tools such as breakers, pry bars, shovels, and picks to reach pipework for removal or repair.
• Seal pipe joints to reduce leaks and use a range of tools and equipment, including valve keys and hand tools, during field work.
• Backfill trenches, compact soil, and place temporary paving as needed.
• Confirm the worksite is left secure before departure.
• Carry out pipe cutting, threading, brazing, soldering, and fitting connections as required.
• Operate company vehicles when assigned.
• Install taps and set up or remove shoring systems as needed.
• Replace meters that are not functioning or have stopped working.
• Handle additional tasks such as washing vehicles, painting, mowing, and similar miscellaneous duties.
• Work in accordance with established safety rules and procedures.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Completion of one month of on-the-job training.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to obtain DOT medical certification.
• CDL Class A is preferred.
• Comfortable working outdoors and around wet, humid, noisy, and occasionally hazardous conditions.

Work environment

This job is primarily outdoors and may involve exposure to wet or humid conditions, vibration, moving mechanical parts, elevated or precarious locations, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic substances, and the possibility of electrical shock. The environment is usually loud, and hearing protection is required.
