Role overview
An advanced technology company in London is looking for an experienced backend engineer to help build the next generation of intelligent software platforms. This position is centred on Python development and involves shaping software that links physical devices with modern cloud and data systems.
The work will focus on large, complex backend services that process substantial real-time data across a range of environments. You will contribute to the design and growth of systems that must remain fast, reliable, and ready for mission-critical use.
What you'll work on
- Creating and scaling backend services and architecture for high-volume, real-time applications.
- Developing dependable APIs and improving database efficiency through careful query optimisation.
- Enhancing system performance to support demanding production workloads.
- Building software that connects real-world devices with cloud and data infrastructure.
- Working on platforms that may involve machine learning, computer vision, AI, and streaming or edge-based data flows.
Required experience and technical background
- Strong backend engineering experience with the ability to write clean, efficient, and high-performing code.
- Hands-on expertise in Python, particularly FastAPI.
- Practical knowledge of Pydantic, PostgreSQL, SQLAlchemy, and AWS.
- Experience working with distributed systems tooling such as Redis and Celery.
- Exposure to ML inference environments, including GCP or Modal, would be advantageous.
- Previous work with streaming data, IoT, or edge computing environments.
- Experience in fast-moving, startup-like workplaces.
- Good understanding of performance tuning in large-scale system architectures.
- Familiarity with CI/CD workflows, testing, and production deployments.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across different functions and teams.
