This is a permanent, site-based role where you will help maintain and improve people’s homes in your community. The organisation is one of the UK’s largest housing providers and values inclusive communities, customer wellbeing, and high-quality service.
What you’ll receive
- Company van provided, including a fuel card
- 35 days of annual leave, bank holidays included, with the ability to buy or sell leave
- Extra working hours available where needed
- Fixed working pattern of 08:00 to 16:30, Monday to Friday
- Tools, uniform, iPad, mobile phone, and PPE supplied
- Pension scheme with employer matching up to 7%
- Secure permanent employment
- Steady workload within your allocated area
- Bonus plan available for colleagues of up to 2%
- Death in service cover
- Paid sickness support
What the role involves
You will carry out joinery repairs and installations in domestic properties, working to agreed specifications and standards while keeping customer homes and belongings protected. The work includes tasks such as fitting doors, installing kitchens, laying flooring, and carrying out internal joinery work. You will coordinate with supervisors, schedulers, and other teams to hit deadlines, keep accurate records of completed work, and support apprentices and wider team performance.
Day-to-day working style
Your workload will follow a planned repair and maintenance schedule. You will travel between jobs in the company van, work on your own or alongside other tradespeople, and deal directly with customers in their homes. The role requires efficient working without compromising on quality, safety, or compliance.
Work environment
You may work in occupied homes, empty properties, and a variety of domestic settings across your local area. Some assignments may involve working around vulnerable customers, and you may also be asked to cover nearby surrounding areas.
Hiring criteria
- NVQ Level 2 in Joinery, or an equivalent qualification
- Previous experience as a Joiner, ideally in social housing or domestic properties
- Full UK driving licence
- Must be based within the PO postcode area because of the patch covered
Preferred, but not essential
- Experience across more than one trade
- Comfort using IT systems, or a willingness to learn digital tools
Application and onboarding
The recruitment process is moving quickly, and suitable candidates may be interviewed as soon as possible. New starters will complete an induction that covers the company’s systems, ways of working, and other role-specific information.
Important notes
This position requires a Basic DBS check. Candidates should also be prepared for the possibility of working across surrounding areas. The employer may close the vacancy earlier than planned if enough strong applications are received.
Safeguarding and equal opportunities
Safeguarding is treated as a shared responsibility. The employer follows safeguarding policies and pre-employment checks to help protect children, young people, adults at risk, employees, volunteers, and contractors. Applicants with Armed Forces backgrounds, disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria, and neurodivergent applicants who meet the criteria are guaranteed an interview under the organisation’s relevant commitments.
How to apply
Applicants are asked to submit a CV and a supporting statement showing how they meet the role requirements. If applying on a mobile device, the CV should be available in cloud storage such as Google Drive, OneDrive, or Dropbox. The employer also notes that it works with an approved agency supplier list and does not accept cold calls.
