About the Role
This position is for an experienced Front-End Developer with strong React expertise to help build advanced web applications using modern, high-impact technologies. The work involves creating scalable user interfaces for complex, data-heavy and map-based products, with opportunities to guide teammates and contribute to technical direction.
The role is tied to mission-focused software development and includes work that supports critical outcomes. You will collaborate on solutions that blend frontend engineering, mapping experiences, AI-enabled components, and robust API integration.
Role Overview
- Take ownership of frontend architecture for React applications built with Redux and RTK Query.
- Develop AI-enhanced UI components and reusable widget structures to improve product capability and engineering efficiency.
- Build and tune fast, interactive location-based interfaces using LeafletJS or comparable mapping tools.
- Coordinate complex REST API integration so data moves smoothly between frontend and backend systems.
- Apply advanced Material UI, CSS3, and responsive design practices to deliver polished interfaces.
- Review code thoroughly, support testing practices, and mentor less experienced engineers.
- Help lead technical initiatives and provide day-to-day guidance to the development team.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science is preferred; relevant experience may be accepted in place of the degree.
- At least 5 years of professional software development experience, with substantial hands-on React and Redux work in production.
- At least 5 years of experience with TypeScript, modern JavaScript (ES6+), and responsive UI design.
- Strong understanding of API design and consumption, with Node.js experience considered a strong advantage.
- Practical experience using Git or Bitbucket, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing tools such as Jest or React Testing Library.
- Ability to work on a hybrid schedule with 2 to 3 onsite days per week in Austin, TX.
- Must be willing and able to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance; an active TS/SCI clearance is preferred.
Preferred Experience
- Experience integrating and customizing 2D and 3D mapping platforms such as Leaflet, Cesium, or Google Maps in React applications.
- Exposure to Next.js for server-side rendering and performance improvements.
- Familiarity with D3.js or similar visualization libraries for advanced map overlays.
- Background in startup environments or leading cross-functional teams in Agile/Scrum settings.
- Awareness of web accessibility standards and inclusive UI practices.
Work Details
This is a full-time regular role. The position may involve up to 10% travel within the continental United States. The role requires hybrid attendance in Austin, TX, typically 2 to 3 days onsite each week.
