Build Engineer (Linux, VMware)

Role overview

We are looking for a mid-to-senior Unix/Linux administrator with deep VMware expertise to support environment builds and infrastructure operations in Singapore. This position centers on keeping Linux systems and virtualized platforms stable, secure, and well-tuned, while collaborating with cross-functional technical teams in an enterprise setting.

What you will do

• Set up, administer, and maintain Unix/Linux servers, with a primary focus on RHEL, across production and non-production environments.
• Support VMware vSphere infrastructure, including ESXi hosts, vCenter Server, clusters, resource pools, and virtual networking.
• Track system health, improve performance, and plan capacity for both Linux and VMware environments.
• Apply security baselines, patching routines, and compliance controls such as CIS, STIG, and internal standards.
• Investigate and resolve difficult issues across hardware, operating systems, virtualization, networking, storage, and application-to-database connectivity.
• Handle file systems, storage provisioning, disk partitioning, LVM setup, volume growth, and mount-point restructuring.
• Use Bash, Python, Perl, or automation tools such as Ansible to streamline operational work.
• Maintain backup, snapshot, and disaster recovery processes for Unix and VMware platforms.
• Work with application, database, and DevOps teams during deployments, upgrades, and migrations.
• Create and update architecture notes, configuration documents, SOPs, and troubleshooting guides.
• Take part in on-call duties and provide after-hours support when needed.

What we are looking for

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related discipline.
• At least 5 years of practical Unix/Linux administration experience.
• At least 3 years of hands-on experience with VMware vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter.
• Solid knowledge of networking fundamentals such as TCP/IP, DNS, and NFS.
• Experience with storage platforms including SAN and NAS, along with backup technologies.
• Working familiarity with ITIL practices and change management workflows.
• Preferred: VMware Certified Professional (VCP).
• Preferred: Linux administration certification such as RHCSA or RHCE.
• Nice to have: exposure to Kubernetes, containers, or cloud services like AWS or Azure.

Additional details

This is an onsite contract role based in Singapore. The role involves independent problem-solving, strong technical ownership, and regular collaboration with application, database, and DevOps stakeholders. On-call participation and out-of-hours support are part of the position when required.
