Data Science Expert

About the Role

This opportunity is for highly capable data science professionals who want to contribute remotely to advanced AI research work. The role is with Mercor, a company that connects top creative and technical talent with leading AI research labs.

The position is set up as a remote contract engagement with flexible weekly commitment in the range of 20 to 40 hours. Compensation is listed at $60 to $100 per hour.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan experiments and collect the data needed for machine learning work.
• Clean, prepare, and examine large datasets to support predictive modeling.
• Assess AI models and help enhance them using TensorFlow or PyTorch.
• Partner with engineering teams to ship solutions that are ready for production use.
• Create, review, and verify prompt-style questions used to train AI systems.
• Operate independently and asynchronously while meeting deadlines and improving model quality.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of professional experience in data science or applied analytics.
• Strong hands-on ability with Python and Jupyter notebooks.
• Practical experience with tools and libraries such as numpy, pandas, scipy, sympy, scikit-learn, torch, and tensorflow.
• A bachelor's degree in data science, statistics, computer science, or a related discipline from the U.S., Canada, New Zealand, the UK, or Australia.
• Solid knowledge of exploratory data analysis, statistical inference, machine learning pipelines, model assessment, feature engineering, data preparation, data wrangling, A/B testing, experimentation, or causal inference.
• Clear written and spoken communication skills.
• Careful attention to detail.

Commitment: 20–40 hours per week
