Housekeeper

About the Role

The Housekeeper role supports a clean, safe, and sanitary patient care setting by maintaining assigned spaces in an orderly condition. This position also helps ensure environmental services equipment issues are reported promptly and that infectious waste and confidential disposal vendors complete their work on schedule.

Compensation and Schedule

Pay for this position is $17.00 to $19.00 per hour. The regular shift is from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Key Duties

• Carry out routine cleaning and custodial work to keep the facility sanitary, presentable, and well maintained.
• Perform daily cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, polishing fixtures, straightening areas, and cleaning restrooms.
• Clean patient rooms, bathrooms, laboratories, offices, and hallways, using equipment such as buffers, scrubbers, sweepers, and carpet-cleaning machines as needed.
• Wash bed frames, scrub mattresses, and remake beds after patient discharge when required.
• Keep utility and storage areas organized and tidy.
• Operate commercial washers and dryers and launder soiled linens as directed.
• Follow infection-control practices by moving soiled linen to storage areas and distributing cleaned linens and other items.
• Sweep, scrub, wax, and polish floors while paying close attention to slip and fall hazards during and after floor care.
• Clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and draperies, and dust furniture and equipment.
• Wash walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, door panels, and window sills.
• Empty wastebaskets and carry trash and waste to the disposal area.
• Disinfect rooms, furniture, fixtures, equipment, and supplies using approved cleaning methods and germicides.
• Check cleaning-cart inventory each day and maintain enough supplies for department use.
• Check the linen supply closet daily to verify stock levels.
• Clean and store all equipment and supplies properly after each shift.
• Follow standard and universal precautions, environmental safety practices, and MSDS instructions for any materials used during the job.
• Set up rooms for meetings and arrange decorations and furniture for facility events.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Prior housekeeping experience in a commercial, clinical, or healthcare setting is also preferred.
