Role overview

Amentum is hiring a full-time Labourer for its Alice Springs office. The position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and involves supporting minor construction, maintenance, and landscaping activities across the site.

What you’ll do

The role includes practical site work such as operating hand and power tools, excavating trenches, backfilling holes, compacting or clearing soil, and preparing concrete by mixing, pouring, and spreading it. You’ll also assist qualified tradespeople, including carpenters, electricians, and plumbers.

Landscaping tasks will form part of the job as well, including mowing, trimming, edging, weed control, and other outdoor maintenance duties as needed.

Work schedule

This is a 38-hour work week, with hours set as Monday to Thursday from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM and Friday from 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM.

Essential duties

• Carry out a broad range of support tasks linked to Vesta contract requirements, including tool operation, trenching, backfilling, soil removal or compaction, and concrete preparation and placement.
• Assist trades and other staff in facilities and maintenance work whenever required.
• Work in a safe, disciplined, and professional way, making safety part of everyday activity.
• Follow company safety rules and escalate incidents to management without delay.
• Finish assigned work within the required timeframe while staying aligned with company procedures.
• Use computer-based systems to log, track, and plan work activities.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Vesta Management Team.

What we’re looking for

• A valid HR driver’s licence.
• Prior exposure to carpentry, electrical, or plumbing work is an advantage.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills.
• A strong commitment to safety and a record of working safely.
• Comfort working as part of a team.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
• Working-at-heights experience is desirable.
• Proven ability to meet deadlines and complete tasks successfully.
• Ability to spot issues, assess them, and help develop practical solutions.

Work environment

Work in Alice Springs can involve hot conditions and physically demanding labour. Typical assignments may include patching and painting walls, carrying out housing maintenance repairs, replacing outdoor taps, upgrading lawns, and replacing doors.

Security and clearance requirements

Employment is conditional on obtaining and maintaining the required security and medical clearances for the role. The successful candidate must hold, or be able to obtain and keep, an NV-1/SECRET Australian Department of Defence security clearance or an SSBI U.S. clearance.
