Role overview

This position supports Cadent’s East of England network investment programme by preparing the pre-construction information needed for gas pipeline schemes. The role ensures the relevant health and safety pack is ready for tendering and construction, and that the information stays current throughout the build phase.

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution company, operating four of the eight gas distribution networks in the country across the East of England, London, the North West and the West Midlands. Its networks span more than 131,000 kilometres of pipework and supply gas safely and reliably to 11 million homes. Cadent also runs the UK-wide Gas Emergency Helpline.

Costain has been appointed as the Construction Management Organisation responsible for planning and delivering Cadent’s annual network investment programme for the East of England.

Working arrangement

This is a hybrid position with three days a week based in Witham, Essex and two days worked remotely. Flexible and dynamic working options can also be discussed to help balance work and personal commitments.

What you will do

• Prepare and compile the part of the project health and safety file that holds the required pre-construction information.
• Track the validity of pre-construction details and issue updates when needed.
• Keep an eye on construction programme changes so information can be produced in a timely and flexible way.
• Work closely with the wider team and adapt to changes in workload as needed.
• Take a flexible approach to task completion to support strong performance while keeping costs under control.

What you need

• Strong IT ability, including the use of Microsoft Office.
• Practical knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations.
• Awareness of health and safety rules, policies and procedures, along with an understanding of environmental legislation.
• Experience using mapping software and GIS-based systems.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
• Comfort with producing accurate information.
• Background in contributing to high-performing teams.
• Self-motivation and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Relevant experience within an engineering discipline.
• Gas or utilities experience is preferred.
• CDM 2015 awareness is desirable.
• Environmental awareness is desirable.
