Company Overview
Bantrel is a Canadian EPC/EPCM provider with four decades of experience delivering integrated engineering, procurement, construction, and construction management solutions for complex energy, mining, infrastructure, and nuclear work. The company supports design and procurement from its offices in Calgary, Edmonton, and Toronto, and carries out construction management and direct construction activities at client sites across Canada. It operates independently while drawing on the global reach of Bechtel Corporation and the local ownership support of McCaig Investments, with a long-term, financially strong, Canadian-focused outlook.
Role Summary
Bantrel is hiring a Project Manager to join its construction team in Saskatoon or Bethune, Saskatchewan. The role supports a long-term expansion of the company’s Saskatchewan presence and contributes to major mining, energy transition, and industrial work across the province and Western Canada. The selected candidate will work within an Integrated Project Management Team (IPMT) supporting K+S Potash Canada’s Bethune solution potash mine expansion near Moose Jaw and Regina.
This is a full-time permanent role focused on leading disciplined project delivery across all phases of a major EPC assignment. The position calls for an experienced leader who can coordinate multidisciplinary teams, maintain strong client and leadership communication, and ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality execution.
Work Location and Arrangement
The job is based in Bethune, Saskatchewan. Preference will be given to candidates living locally, although relocation support may be available if eligibility is met, and a Living Out Allowance (LOA) may also apply. The role includes a hybrid remote work program of up to 52 days per year, subject to eligibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Guide the project from early concept through final closeout, covering planning, engineering, procurement, construction, project performance management, start-up, performance testing, and transfer to operations.
- Ensure work aligns with contract obligations, quality requirements, health and safety commitments, and client expectations throughout every phase.
- Serve as the main contact for the client and internal leadership, maintaining strong relationships and clear, timely communication.
- Lead and direct multidisciplinary project teams by setting priorities, assigning resources, and providing direction to meet scope, schedule, and budget targets.
- Take prompt action on project issues, including escalation and resolution decisions that require direct management involvement.
- Provide senior leadership with updates on progress, risks, deviations, and corrective actions, and prepare status reports and performance dashboards.
- Oversee EPC execution planning, commissioning preparedness, and turnover records for operations handover.
- Monitor contractor performance and handle change orders, claims, and commercial terms in line with the contract.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Proven success delivering large capital projects while meeting contractual commitments, quality standards, cost objectives, and safety expectations.
- Strong analytical judgment and the ability to resolve complex technical, commercial, and schedule challenges under tight constraints.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and producing structured leadership reporting in EPC/EPCM settings.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management abilities, with experience acting as the primary client contact and representing projects with partners, contractors, and regulators.
- A collaborative approach and the ability to build productive working relationships with engineering, construction, project controls, commercial teams, and external suppliers.
- 10 to 15 years of progressive project management experience in heavy industry, energy, infrastructure, or large capital project environments.
- Post-secondary education in engineering or a technical discipline; an engineering degree or engineering technology diploma is preferred.
- PMP certification or an equivalent credential is considered an advantage.
- Strong understanding of EPC/EPCM delivery approaches and formal stage-gate development processes.
- Working knowledge of project controls tools and methods, including earned value management, forecasting, risk analysis, schedule development, and change management.
- Experience managing projects from FEL through execution and turnover, including engineering, procurement, contracting, construction, commissioning, and handover.
- Ability to shape contracting strategies, negotiate commercial terms, guide cross-functional teams, and manage vendor performance while balancing scope, cost, schedule, and quality.
- A strong commitment to safety leadership and continuous improvement in risk awareness.
