Sr. Systems Engineer (Application Development)

Role overview

This position is focused on designing and delivering robust software products and integration layers that fit into QatarEnergy Trading’s current technology landscape. The goal is to support business expansion and tighter risk management by using automation and well-structured software engineering practices.

What you will do

• Partner with traders, risk and finance leaders, system architects, business analysts, project managers, and other ICT teams to create scalable applications, interfaces, and tools from the ground up, with a strong emphasis on automation and smoother processes.
• Develop and support software solutions that connect cleanly with both third-party and internally built platforms while aligning with the organization’s broader IT architecture.
• Deliver prompt technical assistance for internal trading applications so day-to-day operations remain stable and uninterrupted.
• Set up DevOps practices and supporting tools for the Trading Solutions team to create a strong base for future expansion.
• Guide outside consultants and developers by defining technical needs, preparing test cases, tracking schedules, and enforcing quality standards to ensure business-ready delivery.
• Keep pace with emerging tools and technologies, test new ideas through proof of concepts, document findings, and share best practices that strengthen the company’s competitive position.
• Apply security standards and follow established procedures throughout the software lifecycle to protect systems, manage vulnerabilities, and reduce exposure to threats.

Experience and technical requirements

• You should bring at least 8 years of hands-on experience in designing, building, and implementing multi-tier solutions using C#, Angular JS, and .NET in environments such as commodity trading, banking, or hedge funds.
• At least 3 years of experience is needed in developing, deploying, and supporting solutions on Azure, including services such as Azure Active Directory, Azure Functions, Azure Service Bus, Azure App Services, Azure Storage, Azure SQL, and Azure Cosmos DB.
• Strong background in backend API development with C# and solid knowledge of RESTful and GraphQL services is required.
• Practical experience with Angular-based single-page application development is expected.
• Hands-on exposure to CI/CD platforms and tools such as Azure DevOps and GitHub is required.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools like Bicep or Terraform is expected.
• Strong SQL skills and practical database design experience are necessary.
• You must be comfortable handling the full SDLC using Agile methods, including requirements gathering, prototyping, proof of concept work, design, development, testing, and maintenance.
• Understanding of microservices-based architecture is needed.
• Exposure to microfrontend concepts is an added advantage.
• Knowledge of straight-through processing and FIX protocol is preferred.
• Experience building and maintaining cloud solutions using Azure DevOps and related cloud services such as Microsoft Azure Data Factory and Databricks, along with reporting solutions, is preferred.
• Exposure to CTRM or ETRM platforms is preferred.
• Python skills will be considered a plus.
• Strong written and spoken communication skills are important.
• You should be self-driven, able to work independently, and comfortable helping build a business environment from the ground up while balancing quick short-term delivery with long-term progress.
• A strong focus on delivery is essential.

Education

A bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related discipline is required.
