About the company
Lowe’s is a Fortune 100 home improvement retailer that serves about 16 million customer transactions each week in the United States. In fiscal year 2024, the company generated more than $83 billion in sales and operated over 1,700 stores with around 300,000 associates. The business also supports community programs related to affordable housing, safe communities, skilled trade development, and disaster relief.
Lowe’s India, based in Bengaluru, is the company’s global capability center with more than 4,500 associates. It supports technology, business, analytics, and shared services work across omnichannel retail, AI/ML, enterprise architecture, supply chain, and customer experience, while also contributing through its Catalyze innovation platform and sustainability efforts.
What the role involves
- Build and present block plan handoff packages for the visual space planning team.
- Prepare scope-of-work plans for major merchandising resets, remerchandising programs, and new store openings.
- Create model layouts when the work covers several selling departments or multiple stores.
- Review rack, fixture, and display needs while ensuring planogram placement aligns with building constraints and ADA requirements such as aisle widths, wall penetrations, and columns.
- Apply store design standards for each prototype format, including operating conditions, space allocations by division, and facility characteristics.
- Translate target space allocation into existing store conditions by reallocating bays and using financial allocation methods.
- Design efficient receiving and storage areas so merchandise moves smoothly from loading docks to the sales floor while preserving staging and storage space.
- Plan customer service, checkout, returns, contractor sales, receiving, and storage zones for major remerchandising work.
- Develop store designs that remain objective and are guided by allocation criteria and design intent.
- Share updated store and remerchandising plans internally at each milestone, including electrical review, proof room review, fixture ordering, and rack set stages.
Experience and education
The role calls for 1 to 2 years of experience in retail store planning and design. A bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Interior Design, or a related field is required.
Skills and tools
Applicants should have strong working knowledge of store planning tools such as AutoCAD or similar floor-planning and macro space software. Familiarity with project management methods, especially PMP, and intermediate-level Excel skills are also preferred.
