Role overview
Calian is recruiting Crisis Support Workers to assist a 911 call centre serving a public safety organization in London, Ontario. This is an onsite position with 12-hour shifts, scheduled either from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM or from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
What you will do
- Provide immediate support and de-escalation to people facing a mental health crisis.
- Triage non-urgent mental health-related calls to the most suitable community and regional mental health or addiction services.
- Help lower the number of non-emergency mental health calls handled by the service.
- Limit the use of public safety resources for situations that do not require an emergency response.
- Guide individuals toward appropriate support options and help reduce stigma around mental health concerns.
What we are looking for
- A university degree or college diploma in psychology, social work, nursing, counselling, or an equivalent field.
- At least 2 years of experience in telephone-based crisis services is preferred.
- Background in brief intervention, crisis intervention, and client system navigation by phone.
- Experience conducting assessments and safety planning over the telephone.
- Ability to deliver effective crisis support to people in distress through phone-based communication.
- Skill in identifying concerns and connecting people with relevant resources, referrals, and information.
- Good understanding of mental health, addiction, problem gambling, and related community support services.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving ability.
- Comfort working across multiple computer systems efficiently.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.
Additional requirements
You must be able to obtain a Provincial Security Clearance.
Compensation
The pay range is $33 to $35 per hour, plus a shift premium.
