Program Objectives

The WHO Country Office in Papua New Guinea collaborates closely with the National Department of Health and other development partners to advance global and regional health aims. Key strategic priorities focus on sustainable health results, enhanced health systems, and preparedness for emergencies including surveillance and health security.

Role Overview

The Driver will be responsible for operating WHO office vehicles to ensure safe and reliable transportation for authorized staff and visitors, perform vehicle upkeep, and carry out messenger duties as needed.

Key Duties

• Safely drive office vehicles for transporting authorized personnel, including for field missions, and manage delivery and collection of mail, documents, and other items.
• Meet official visitors at the airport and assist with immigration and customs procedures as required.
• Ensure all necessary vehicle documentation and supplies are available, such as insurance, logs, first aid kits, and spare parts.
• Accurately log official trips, tracking mileage and fuel or electricity usage.
• Conduct routine vehicle maintenance including minor repairs, oil changes, tire and brake checks, washing, and arranging major repairs when needed.
• Maintain a valid driving license and comply with traffic laws and safety protocols.
• Take appropriate measures to secure the vehicle and its contents when unattended.
• Daily check the operation of GPS and tracking devices to ensure proper functionality.
• Report incidents or accidents following established procedures.
• Perform messenger responsibilities such as handling deliveries, and loading or unloading mail and supplies.

Qualifications

Education: Completion of secondary, technical, or commercial school education and possession of a valid driver's license are essential. Basic mechanical certification and first aid training are advantageous.

Experience: At least one year of driving work with a clean safety record is required. Familiarity with driving in WHO or UN organizations is a plus.

Skills and Competencies

• Knowledge of local traffic laws and geographic awareness of Papua New Guinea.
• Understanding protocol and security standards related to driver roles.
• Basic mechanical aptitude for vehicle operation and upkeep.
• Ability to interact courteously and tactfully with diverse individuals.
• Competence in writing official incident reports and comprehending instructions in English.

Compensation and Benefits

The role offers an attractive annual net base salary starting at PGK 30,655 after mandatory pension and health insurance deductions, along with 30 days of annual leave.

Contract Details
