Position Overview
This role, based in the United States, is a senior leadership position responsible for managing an extensive technical program portfolio that supports vital aviation infrastructure projects. The Principal Program Manager provides strategic guidance to diverse teams to ensure successful execution of complex engineering, construction, installation, and operational tasks. This opportunity involves interacting with executive stakeholders, overseeing program governance, fostering team growth, and driving operational effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily management of a large regional program portfolio encompassing engineering, construction management, installations, testing, logistics, and technical services.
- Lead, mentor, and support project managers, field teams, engineers, and technical staff.
- Set and monitor performance benchmarks, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, budget, scheduling, and contractual goals.
- Engage directly with senior executives and customers to report program progress, address issues, and maintain robust relationships.
- Serve as the organization's representative with clients, partners, subcontractors, and external stakeholders during program execution.
- Ensure consistent deployment of project management methodologies, governance, reporting standards, and quality controls.
- Support staffing plans, resource forecasting, and team development activities.
- Assist with defining execution strategies, implementation plans, budget, and schedule projections for new work requests.
- Track program performance metrics, identify risks, resolve challenges, and implement process improvements to enhance outcomes.
- Manage risk, quality assurance, and compliance to align with company policies and contractual obligations.
- Coordinate cross-functional efforts involving engineering, procurement, logistics, installation, construction, commissioning, and operations teams.
- Record major milestones, issue logs, and key performance indicators, providing detailed executive reports.
- Champion continuous improvement, technical excellence, and a customer-centric approach across program activities.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, management, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience with substantial program or project management roles.
- Proven track record managing complex programs including engineering, construction, installation, logistics, or infrastructure delivery.
- Strong leadership skills driving accountability across multidisciplinary technical teams.
- Experience handling large portfolios with significant operational, financial, and scheduling responsibilities.
- Solid understanding of program management disciplines like planning, execution, risk oversight, quality control, and performance reporting.
- Preferred experience working with government, aviation, infrastructure, or regulated sectors.
- Excellent communication skills for interfacing with executives, customers, internal and external partners.
- Ability to coach, mentor, and develop professional teams.
- Proficient in analyzing complex challenges and devising actionable solutions in dynamic settings.
- Strong organizational capabilities to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Familiarity with technical environments involving engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operational transitions.
