Overview
The AFC Inspector role focuses on checking the condition, functionality, and upkeep of Automatic Fare Collection systems across the network. The position exists to ensure systems meet contractual obligations, operational standards, and revenue protection needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out field inspections of AFC equipment such as validators, gates, ticket vending machines, and backend interfaces to confirm they are working properly and remain available for service.
- Track contractor maintenance work and check that both preventive and corrective maintenance activities follow the required standards.
- Assess the accuracy and reliability of fare collection systems, and flag issues that could affect revenue integrity or the passenger experience.
- Log defects and non-compliance items, then follow through to make sure the contractor completes corrective actions on time.
- Work with AFC, telecom, and IT teams to troubleshoot and close out system and integration issues.
Candidate Profile
The role is suited to someone with at least 5 years of experience in AFC systems, ticketing technologies, or transport ITS environments. A strong grasp of smart ticketing, fare systems, and the related communications networks is important. Prior exposure to inspections, audits, or maintenance oversight is expected, and familiarity with asset management/reporting tools such as Maximo is a plus.
