Role overview
The business and customer landscape is shifting, and Datacom is investing heavily in AI to deliver a major uplift across the ANZ market. The company is seeking an AI Architect to set the technical direction for AI-enabled solutions. This person will act as the senior technical authority, shaping scalable, secure, production-ready architectures and turning business goals into practical technical designs that use modern cloud platforms, large language models, and agentic AI approaches.
This position calls for a strong software engineering foundation combined with real-world AI experience. You will advise engineering teams, assess technologies, define standards, and make sure AI solutions are built on reliable foundations. You’ll be part of the Digital Engineering leadership group, contributing across multiple workstreams to influence the future of AI-driven delivery at Datacom.
Key accountabilities
- Take ownership of the technical architecture for AI solutions across several customer engagements.
- Assess, choose, and help standardize AI tools, frameworks, and platforms across the organization.
- Develop reference architectures, design patterns, and delivery best practices for AI solutions.
- Run architecture reviews and provide governance support to delivery teams.
- Work with product owners, data scientists, and engineering leaders to convert business needs into scalable technical designs.
- Create data architectures that support AI workloads, including ingestion, processing, storage, and retrieval.
- Set and promote engineering standards for AI quality, testing, security, and observability.
- Support build-versus-buy decisions and manage relationships with vendors and technology partners.
- Coach and uplift engineering teams on AI architecture and delivery practices.
- Stay current with the fast-changing AI ecosystem and share practical insights with the wider organization.
- Present architectural direction and technical strategies to senior stakeholders and customers.
Technical expertise required
The role requires advanced capability across AI architecture, solution design, cloud infrastructure, and software development. You should be confident working with multi-agent AI systems, evaluation frameworks for non-deterministic outputs, secure prompt handling, scalable inference, distributed systems, microservices, API design, cloud-native services, Infrastructure as Code, vector search technologies, observability, and modern programming stacks such as Python and TypeScript.
